On 1 October 2020, the Bundestag adopted a motion tabled by the FDP, Left Party and Alliance 90/The Greens parliamentary groups for the establishment of a 3rd committee of inquiry. The opposition parliamentary groups voted in favour of the motion, whilst the governing coalition groups abstained. The mandate of this nine-member committee is to investigate the conduct of the Federal Government and the agencies it supervises in connection with events surrounding the now-bankrupt financial-services provider Wirecard.
