With its Study Commission "Artificial Intelligence – Social Responsibility and Economic, Social and Ecological Potential", the Bundestag is tackling one of the core debates of our era. The Study Commission, comprised in equal parts of Members of the German Bundestag and external experts in the relevant field, aims to investigate the future influence of artificial intelligence (AI) on our lives, our way of living together, the German economy and the future world of work. The opportunities presented by AI for society, politics and the economy are examined alongside the challenges. A host of technical, legal and ethical issues are the subject of discussion. The Commission’s role also includes identifying and outlining the need for policy-based action at national, European and international level on the basis of their investigative results, in order to capitalise on the economic and social opportunities offered by AI on the one hand, while also minimising the risks on the other.
