In its 28th plenary sitting on Wednesday, 25 April 2018, the German Bundestag established the Permanent Committee on Building, Housing, Urban Development and Local Government. The decision was based on a joint motion tabled by the CDU/CSU, SPD, AfD, The Left Party and Alliance 90/The Greens parliamentary groups (19/1825). Member of the Bundestag Mechthild Heil (CDU/CSU) was appointed chairperson of the Committee. The motion stipulates that the committee consist of 24 members. Nine of these come from the CDU/CSU, and five from the SPD. The AfD and FDP parliamentary groups are represented by three members each. Two parliamentarians each from The Left Party and Alliance 90/The Greens sit on the new committee.
