On Thursday, 31 January 2019, Bundestag President Dr Wolfgang Schäuble opened the exhibition “Some Were Neighbors: Collaboration, Complicity and Resistance in the Holocaust” from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Following a welcome from Dr Schäuble, Museum Director Sara J. Bloomfield gave an introductory talk. The exhibition by the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, previously only shown in the USA, was presented in Germany for the first time in January and February 2019 to mark the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of National Socialism. The creators of the exhibition wish to show the motives and pressures that influenced the decisions and behaviour of individuals during the Holocaust, and how people reacted to the plight of their Jewish classmates, colleagues, neighbours and friends.
