The German Bundestag’s Exhibition on Parliamentary History in the Deutscher Dom traces the historical development of parliamentarianism in Germany. It focuses primarily on the eras in which the main foundations were laid for the political order of the Federal Republic of Germany. It examines parliamentary decision-making processes and conflicts, as well as the functions and procedures of elected parliaments. The exhibition also looks at the emergence, development and work of Germany’s parliamentary groups and political parties.

The various levels of the Exhibition on Parliamentary History cover the following topics:

  • Level 1: The development of parliamentarianism in Germany
  • Level 1.1: Parliamentary democracy in the Federal Republic of Germany
  • Level 2: Parliamentarianism in imperial Germany
  • The Reichstag building in imperial Germany
  • Parliamentarianism in the Weimar Republic
  • Level 3: The Nazi state
  • Post-war Germany
  • Sham parliamentarianism and the Peaceful Revolution in the GDR
  • Level 4: Cinema and project rooms for visiting groups

Guided tours (free of charge)

  • For individual visitors and groups of up to 10 people:
    Between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., a half-hour tour is offered every thirty minutes on selected topics that are part of the exhibition. Arrangements can also be made for tours to be held in English and French. A booking is not required.
