On 26 October 2021, the Bundestag elected the CDU parliamentarian Yvonne Magwas from Saxony as a Vice-President of the German Bundestag. Yvonne Magwas has been a Member of the Bundestag since 2013 and represents the Vogtlandkreis constituency, where she won the constituency seat for the second time in succession in the Bundestag election on 26 September 2021.

Yvonne Magwas was born in Rodewisch, Vogtland, on 28 November 1979. After obtaining her Abitur (higher-education entrance qualification), she studied sociology, business administration and psychology at Chemnitz University of Technology from 1998 to 2005, graduating with a degree in sociology. She worked as a research assistant and adviser from 2005 to 2013.

Improving the compatibility of work and family life

Yvonne Magwas joined the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) in 2001, and was chairwoman of the Vogtland branch of the Young Union (youth section of the CDU/CSU) until 2007. She was a town councillor in Auerbach, Vogtland, from 2003 to 2009, and a member of Vogtlandkreis county council from 2003 to 2005 and since May 2019.

In the past electoral terms, Yvonne Magwas has advocated for culture and media, education and research, as well as environmental and construction topic areas. From February 2018 until October 2021 she was also chair of the Women’s Group within the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the Bundestag. In this role, Yvonne Magwas was committed to equal participation for women and improving the compatibility of work and family life.

Since 2019, Yvonne Magwas has been deputy chair of the CDU’s Women’s Union at federal level, and a member of the Federal Foundation for Equality since 2021. She has additionally been a member of the Executive Committee and Administrative Council of the German Federal Film Board (FFA) since 2018, and from 2015 until 2019 held the office of deputy chair of the radio council of Deutschlandradio.
